What is the Kids to Kitties Reading Program?
Children in our community have the unique opportunity to sit with shelter cats and read aloud to them in a calm, cozy environment. This program helps improve reading skills for kids while providing stress-free socialization for our shy and anxious feline friends.
- Kids can bring their own books or borrow one from our shelter’s library.
- Cats benefit from positive human interaction, helping them feel more comfortable and increasing their chances of adoption.

“This is a great chance for kids to learn and grow while also helping the animals in their community! I’m so excited to see how the kids’ passion for caring for animals is shining through, and I know they’ll also develop stronger reading and comprehension skills along the way.” – Dominique Hedgepeth, Feline Care Manager at the Humane Society of St. Lucie County.
