Par Fore Paws Charity Golf Tournament
Helping support the homeless animals of Port St. Lucie
Event Recap
The Humane Society of St. Lucie County held their first Par Fore Paws Charity Golf Tournament this Saturday, February 26th at Trident Golf Club. This golf tournament helped raise nearly $25,000 for the homeless animals of Port St. Lucie. For the past 2 months, the HSSLC has been working hard to raise money to address the critical need to upgrade the shelter’s laundry room facility. Their current washers and dryers are constantly breaking down as they are not meant to run all day, every day, cleaning at least 15-20 loads of laundry. With over 200 cats and over 100 dogs currently in the HSSLC’s care, the laundry load is growing exponentially to provide comfortable kennels and condos with clean blankets and towels for their dogs and cats.
This charity golf tournament event was very important to our non-profit Humane Society of St. Lucie County and its no-kill shelter and wellness center because it’s such a celebration of the importance of community, organizations, and emphasizes the generosity of our local businesses and their leaders. This tournament was made possible by many community partners but especially GL Homes, the Economic Development Council of SLC, Kyle G’s Oyster & Wine Bar, Oak and Ember Steakhouse, Geneva Financial, and Marine Bank & Trust.
“Mulligans are not just to get birdies for golfers. Mulligans are the second chance you have to help our residents of the Humane Society of St. Lucie County. I would like to personally thank each and every golfer, donor, sponsor, and volunteer from today’s event. Thank you Trident Golf Club for hosting us today. With 16 tournament teams, we raised almost $25,000 today. Again, we appreciate your support, and we will see you next year. Hit em long hit em straight.” – Glenn Camelio, Executive Director of the Humane Society of St. Lucie County.
Congratulations to the Van Duzer team for placing first. Scott Van Duzer also won our 50/50 raffle and we were able to put 100% towards the animals thanks to his incredible generosity. A thank you is also extended to Larry Portnoy, of one of the GL Homes Teams, as he won the Putting Contest with a 50/50 prize and donated his winnings to the HSSLC. Another congratulations to Gia, one of our adoptable dogs who was out on the golf course, who is now looking at finally having found her forever home after 152 days of residing at our shelter. The weather was perfect, the golfing was impressive, and the competition was strong to the finish. We are hopeful that the newly added annual golf tournament will become a regularly enjoyed fundraising event in the community for years to come to help provide very much needed and continued support for the operations of our no-kill shelter and future expansion for animal capacity and a pet adoption center.
