Camper Safety Measures
At Humane Society of St. Lucie County, we take youth safety seriously. That is why we ensure our staff and programs always take the following precautions to keep participants safe:
- We practice safe staff-to-camper ratio, following the Florida Department of Children and Families guidelines for childcare (or better): 1:25 staff-to-child. Our camp will have 1:10 staff-to-child.
Behavior Expectation
At the Humane Society of St. Lucie County’s Pet Ed-ventures Summer Camp, we expect all participants to treat fellow campers, staff members, and animals with kindness, respect, and compassion.
Children who consistently fail to follow these guidelines may be asked to leave the camp, and they will not be permitted to return for the remainder of the session. Please note, no refunds will be issued for campers who are dismissed due to behavioral concerns.
We maintain a zero-tolerance policy regarding any form of fighting or the use of objects as weapons. Additionally, the use of tobacco, drugs, or alcohol is strictly prohibited on our premises. Violations of these policies will result in immediate dismissal from camp without a refund.
By participating in our camp, you agree to uphold these expectations to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all.
Cell Phone Use During Camp
We understand that campers may want to use their phones during certain times of the day. Phones may be used during snack breaks, lunch, and animal interaction times (for photos only), or as directed by a counselor for specific activities. However, we encourage campers to keep their phones stored away when not in use. This allows them to fully engage in the camp experience, interact with their fellow campers, and immerse themselves in the world around them.
Our goal is to help campers focus on building connections, practicing patience, and enjoying hands-on learning with animals and each other.
Photos During Camp
The Humane Society of St. Lucie County sometimes uses photos and videos (which may feature your child) taken during our summer camp in promotional and educational materials such as brochures, flyers, our website, social media, etc.
Allergies
Please note that children may encounter common potential allergens while at camp, including dog and cat dander, nut, wheat, dairy products, etc. Due to the nature of our work, we cannot guarantee an environment free from any allergens.
EpiPen and Asthma Inhaler
Children who bring an EpiPen and/or Asthma Inhaler to camp must carry it with them, on their person, at all times (a fanny pack might be helpful).
